Looking forward to my new experiences
It was eighteen months ago when I first visited the school high up in the pine forest of Cusmapa, Nicaragua. On that warm, sunny morning I was excited to be observing the music classes Ana was teaching with two Fabretto volunteers. The students were involved in choir, piano, guitar and marimba lessons. This classroom, unlike most others in Nicaragua, was decorated with brightly colored pictures and equipped with a large variety of instruments. These children were being offered opportunities with music I had not seen in other schools.
Reflecting back on my days as a music teacher, I began to wonder how other children in Nicaragua could experience the joy of music. As we continued our travels, I took note of the various materials that were readily available that could be used in a music class. My enthusiasm spilled over as I briefly shared my thoughts with Peter, the operations director of Fabretto and Al and Charlene Meyer, the founders of the Tin Roof Foundation.
Today, the suitcases have been packed, weighed and repacked and a team of eight is ready to embark for 10 days in Nicaragua. While we are there, we will lead two music workshops. Using Psalm 100 as our framework, we will make a joyful noise to the Lord with instruments we make, rhythms we play and songs we sing and dance. We will have several Nicaraguan teachers join us. Violetta has created several drama activities using Psalm 100. Through music the children will hear about the Lord who knows them and loves them. We will join together in praise and thanksgiving.
Never did I imagine God would call me to come back and put my ideas into reality. The past two months have been amazing as God has opened the way and provided for every need. Many people who are not able to travel with us have joined our team helping with the preparations. I am so grateful for their support.
We look forward to the many experiences awaiting us over the next 10 days. Be sure to follow us on the blog as we will be sending updates including the music workshops in Esteli and Cusmapa.
With great anticipation of joining God in His work.
